Leah came from a wonderful family. Her father was a pureblood wizard, he never talked about his parents and no one ever asked about them. Truth was his parents were the stereotypical purebloods. They believed in marrying purebloods and purebloods only and when they found out their only son had fallen in love with a muggle, well they just couldn't have that so they did what any respectable and loving parents would do and they disowned their own son. After that he left his hometown and moved him and his new wife to Britain where they would soon raise a family together.
Leah was the first in her family to attend Hogwarts, her older brother who is also a wizard was sent abroad to Durmstrang. Not Leah though, from a very young age she was more intelligent than the typical child. She had read up on the different wizarding schools after she had discovered that she was a witch. Leah had decided that she liked Hogwarts best, even though her father was pushing her into the direction of Durmstrang. Throughout her school years Leah was always one of the top in her class. She worked her butt off in everything she did. She studied the material she learned in class every night and refused to go to bed until she had studied everything.
Apart from school Leah also really liked quidditch, although she was never confident enough in her quidditch abilities to try out for a school team she liked watching it and playing it for recreation. Schoolwork was her main focus in her first two years of school. She hardly had any friends other than her study budies. That is until her third year when she learned to balance studying and socializing. But schoolwork always came first. She was afterall working towards becoming a healer and that required good grades and complicated classes. This became especially important to her during the war, when so many people were dying during her last few years at Hogwarts. She wanted so bad to be out of school and be able to help all those injured.
The war had taken its toll on everyone in the wizarding world. Families were torn apart and many people died. The war had a big affect on the small Cosgrove family. The death eaters had killed her muggle mother and her father had been taken away to azkaban for refusing to side with the dark lord when the ministry went under the control of the dark lord. Azkaban drove her father insane. Grieving for his wife at the time of his capture, any shred of a happy thought was sucked away by those dreadful dementors. He's in St. Mungo's now after the order had won the battle and all the people that were put in azkaban by the death eaters were released. Leah and her older brother visit their father often. They try and cheer him up whenever they visit. But there's really only so much they can do, the healers often told them that their father would wake up in the middle of the night, forgetting that his wife had been murdered and he’d start asking them for her, and asking for his children. It was quite sad really.
Leah had decided that it would be best to get to bed early so she'd be all ready for classes in the morning. But instead she found that she could not get to sleep she tossed and turned while unpleasant thoughts bothered her for hours. She didn't get quite the marks she was hoping for on her O.W.L's and she kept picturing Professor Flitwick singling her out and then informing her in front of the entire class that there was a mistake and that she must repeat the entire fifth year over again. These thought troubled her for a good four hours until she finally decided that sleep was impossible and got up.
She knew full well that roaming the school at night was prohibited but she couldn't just sit in Ravenclaw Tower all night, she needed a distraction. So Leah quickly slipped out of bed, she decided against changing out of her hot pink bedtime t-shirt and grey shorts, it wasn't like she'd meet anyone out this late, it was almost midnight. But Filch... she thought to herself as she pulled her hair up in a pony tail. Leah wasn't usually one to just go out and break school rules like that.... but it's not like being out after curfew in the grounds was so bad. Leah tip toed quietly around her room, making the least noise as possible as to not wake up her dorm mates. She felt around her nightstand for her wand, once she felt its familiar handle she muttered "Lumos!" under her breath.
A Dull light appeared out of the tip of her wand. She glanced quickly around the room, hoping that she hadn't woken anyone up with the wand light but she found that all the girls had the curtains around their beds drawn. Leah then searched around her room, being a little less careful then she was before. Once she had found the book she was looking for she shoved it in her bag and picked up a small blanket off the end of her bed then headed out the door.
As she walked down the spiral stairs into the common room the first thing she noticed was a small boy fast asleep with his head in a text book. She smiled to herself, remembering her first night at the castle, she had studied for hours worrying about how much she was expected to already know by the time classes started. Leah quietly reminisced to herself as her feet carried her to her favorite haunt. It wasn't until she reached the entrance hall that she was fully conscious of her where abouts. Truthfully she was surprised that she hadn't met someone by now, Filch, or Mrs. Norris or even a teacher. They were patrolling the halls a lot more now, since you-know-who came back.
Leah pushed open the doors leading out of the castle which were surprisingly unlocked. Once she was out of the castle she was greeted by a wonderfully cool breeze. She didn't really like the cold weather that much but this was nice; she pulled the blanket around her as she walked down to the lake. Evidently, Leah was not the only student out of bed this late, there was another girl sitting under a tree by the lake. Her eyes narrowed, she was really hoping that she'd have the lake to herself tonight. Now, Leah was faced with a decision should she sit down and introduce herself or walk by to another spot by the lake and completely ignore the girl. But she thought the second option was kind of rude considering they were the only two out here and before she knew it she was three feet from the tree the girl was sitting at.
"Hello" she said sitting down near her. Now that she was close enough she could see the girl properly she recognized her, not by name no they had no contact at all during school or out of it. The girl was a Slytherin in the same year as Leah. She immediately thought that this was a bad idea, Slytherins disliked pretty much everyone not in their own house. "A little late to be outside don't you think," she much experience making conversation with intimidating strangers.
