--- INTELLIGENT ;; Shocking, I know. An intelligent Ravenclaw; who would have thought? Growing up in an academic household, curiosity was always highly encouraged by Samson’s father. He grew up not being afraid to ask questions or think critically about the world around him. Samson is diligent in his work, but he’s not obsessive about grades. To him, it is more important that one gains knowledge than get good marks. Samson is the type of boy that was often found in the Ravenclaw common room, vehemently arguing about which philosopher said it best, or trying master non-verbal magic.
--- RESERVED ;; Samson is most certainly the type to think before speaking. He chooses his words carefully and if he doesn’t have anything productive to say about a topic, he simply won’t say anything at all. He’s also very observant, preferring to watch the actions around him then being caught up in them. Because he often has his nose some book or another, people don’t often realize how much Samson is actually paying attention to the world around him. He likes it that way; Samson would often rather sit on the outskirts and watch then be involved in any sort of drama.
--- EGALITARIAN ;; When it comes to right, Samson has a tendency to step on a soap box—he cares a lot about others and thinks that everyone deserves to be treated fairly. His passion is centered on education—he believes strongly that all students should have the opportunity to learn, and learn well. This is part of the reason he’s so interested in being a professor; he thinks that good teachers and leaders are invaluable to a student’s education. Aside from that, Samson (for obvious reasons) believes strongly in equality for muggleborns and halfbloods. He is completely intolerant of racism of any sort, and isn’t shy about vocalizing these opinions.

SAMSON abhors ;; people who don’t share incredible knowledge, people who don’t appreciate the importance of education, most popular culture, drawing (he’s terrible at it), sports, being teased, selfishness, eating alone, cruelty, racism
Benjamin Hall had always been an academic, and not much of anything else. He was kind, and gentle, and unbelievably intelligent. He spent almost all of his life with his nose in a history book, so it didn’t come to much of a surprise to anyone when he became a young professor teaching history at Cambridge University. He was never one to go out to bars or clubs, and very few girls allowed him to venture past the ‘friend zone,’ as it were. That was, until Linda. Linda (or Lindy as everyone called her) Richardson was young, beautiful, brilliant, and manipulative. She was friendly, and flirtatious and always knew exactly what to say. She was a senior in one of Ben’s classes, and his attraction to her was instantaneous. Of course, he never showed it—being the straight and narrow professor he was, he fought to keep their relationship professional. Yet, Lindy had other ideas and he was helpless to her charm. At 35, Ben felt an unappeasable need to settle down and start a family. At 22, Lindy was just looking for a good time.
When Ben found out that Lindy was pregnant, he thought that things were finally working out; they would get married, have a beautiful baby, and live happily ever after. In his head, Lindy was his The One. But Lindy had other ideas—the very night that Samson was born, Lindy snuck out of the hospital and was never seen again. Ben was devastated, and it showed. While the baby’s name was originally to be Samuel, he quickly changed his mind to Samson. Samson, who was betrayed and brought to death by the woman he loved in the tragic biblical story. He wanted Samson’s name to remind him every day of the horrible way Lindy had treated him. Of course, once he calmed down, the nurturing side of him felt quite guilty for giving an innocent baby such a weighted, mean spirited name so he’s always called Samson Sam so as not to be reminded.
Growing up, Samson followed in his father’s footsteps rather well; he loved to read and be read to, and was often wise beyond his years. Being the son of an introverted professor, he spent most of his time either at home or at the University, where intellectuals similarly surrounded him. Samson enjoyed a quiet, peaceful childhood where he was very well taken care of by his loving and generous father. It also helped that Ben had the support of his Cambridge faculty, all of whom Samson grew to think of as aunts and uncles. Because his father cared so much about his son’s education, Samson was tutored in normal muggle education every summer at a rather rigorous pace, keeping him up with other children his age and often even more advanced. Samson admired everything about his father, and often asked why he didn’t have a mother around like other children did. When Ben finally decided that Samson was old enough to know what happened to his mother, Samson came to distrust women and fear similar treatment as he grew up.
Of course, it was quite a surprise when Samson found out he was a wizard. Like any child would be, he was both excited to be starting a new, magical adventure and nervous about leaving his familiar home for most of the year. While he’s enjoyed being at Hogwarts and does appreciate his magical ability, Samson never grew out of his love for intellectual stimulation. Now that he’s left Hogwarts, he’s decided that the best thing for himself would be to go back to get some more traditional learning; he’s living with his father and taking classes at Cambridge. Eventually he’d like to be a professor at Hogwarts, but for now he’s enjoying spending time in the wizarding world while being able to go home to his muggle one.
