--- BRAVE;; Seamus was a Gryffindor, and there’s no doubt it was the right house for him. He’s outgoing and confident, and he’ll stand up to his mother and other authority figures when he thinks that they’re wrong. Seamus was in Dumbledore’s Army and fought in the Final Battle, despite being in a fairly bad condition after a year with the Carrows. He was very traumatized by that year and has become pretty withdrawn, but he still has that courageous heart that made him a Gryffindor – he just has to find it again.
--- EMOTIONAL;; Seamus is boisterously friendly when he’s happy and quick to shout when angry, as he doesn’t see any point in hiding how he feels. He’ll lose his temper immediately if you insult someone he cares about, especially his family, and he is usually the first to get into trouble for celebrating too hard at a party. He isn’t ashamed to show grief either – most young men don’t cry in public, but Seamus will shed tears without inhibitions when he’s upset (or when the Kestrels have just won a Quidditch Championship).
--- HUMBLE;; Seamus has never been resentful of Harry’s, or more recently Ron and Neville’s fame, or of Dean’s talents for art and athletics. He is perfectly happy to be a quietly good student, a quietly good friend, a quietly good son, and a very loud person. He likes to sing, cook, play rugby, and go to church with his father when he’s at home in Ireland, but is content to leave those talents behind and go along with what the others want to do at Hogwarts, even though he has no particular gift for Quidditch or other magical hobbies. He also likes to write, but has never shown anyone anything he has written, simply because he doesn’t feel the need.

Seamus Finnegan is the son of Kathleen and Patrick Finnegan, and is from Southwest Ireland. Patrick was the youngest of five and the only boy, and all of his sisters live in the same town as the Finnegans with their husbands and Seamus’s many cousins. Patrick owns the village pub, and is enormously popular with all the patrons, due to his cheerful disposition and lovely singing voice. He and Seamus go to the local Catholic Church together and sing in the choir when Seamus is home from school.
Kathleen O’Flaherty Finnegan is a Pureblood witch with one brother, who lives in Canada. She met Patrick when she was restlessly touring Ireland at the age of nineteen, unsure what she wanted to do with her life. They fell madly in love and married after a whirlwind courtship. Kathleen only told Patrick she was a witch after their marriage, something that was very difficult for him to accept because of his Catholicism. However, he managed to come to terms with it, and they are still happily married.
When Seamus was four, his sister Grania was born. However, she was born with a very serious genetic disorder called cystic fibrosis, and died when she was not quite two years old. Seamus does not remember her well, so her loss does not affect him very much. His cousins make up for the lack of siblings, although he did wish he had a brother or sister when his mother became extremely overprotective during the war.
Kathleen wrote for the Daily Prophet on and off during Seamus’s childhood, and had enormous respect for newspapers, so she believed everything that was printed during the Fudge administration, and passed on that trust in the press to Seamus, who only began to realize the truth when he read a different version of events in another printed source, the Quibbler.
Seamus felt guilty about doubting Harry for a long time afterward, and tried to make up for it by being a dedicated member of the DA and generally helping Harry without getting in his way. This effort meant that Seamus was devoted to the fight against Voldemort by the time his seventh year came around. Following the lead of Neville and Ginny, Seamus became one of the most active student resistors.
However, Neville and Ginny were both Purebloods, and Seamus was not. As one of the only Half-bloods to return to Hogwarts, especially as Harry Potter’s Half-blood dorm mate, Seamus would have been a prime target for the Carrows even had he not been a member of Dumbledore’s Army. Seamus was beaten and tortured more than almost any other student that year, and because as Half-blood, he was considered less human than the Purebloods, he was also sexually abused.
Those experiences are the reason Seamus has become moody and withdrawn. He doesn’t want to tell Dean, who went through other horrors that year, or Neville, who would have felt guilty for not knowing at the time, about it, and he doesn’t want to worry his parents, so he has kept silent. He returned to live with his parents, working in the kitchen of his pub and only leaving to visit Dean and Neville or spend time with some of his many Muggle cousins. He also has not felt able to return to church, because of what happened and Catholicism’s position on such issues, and that has made him very unhappy, as he had always liked going to church with his father.
Now, two years after the war, Seamus isn’t really any better, but he has reached a point where he wants to get better. He also has begun to wonder if there are others who went through what he went through and are too ashamed to talk about it, and wants to reach out to them. So he has decided to start writing about the war, as he had always like to write, and had thought about it as a possible career. He plans to start with poetry and tales of Dumbledore’s Army, and then move on to the more difficult portions when he’s ready.
