Ginny really, really needs a Harry Potter. Ginny and Harry have only been together for a year. They've known they were meant for each other since Ginny's fifth year, but although they weren't about to start relationships with anyone else, they didn't get back together as a couple immediately after the Battle. The way Ginny saw it, Harry kept leaving her behind and she needed to know that he would accept her as an equal before they restarted their romantic relationship. Three months after the Battle of Hogwarts, on her birthday, Ginny and Harry decided to rekindle their relationship. A little more than a year after that, on Christmas Eve 1999, Harry asks Ginny to marry him. They're young, and they're both trying to establish careers for themselves (recruiters have been after Ginny, and Harry is busy trying to round up Death Eaters), but they know that they'd rather deal with all the hassle with the other by their side. They quickly realize that what they had intended to be a private ceremony is going to attract much more attention than they want, and right now they're dealing with the stress of planning a wedding plus the stress of avoiding the press (think of Lady Di's wedding in terms of reporters). Harry has been doing a fair job of balancing his career with his personal life, but he's still trying to find the middle ground between being open with Ginny about what he's doing and maintaining confidentiality. With Ron at the shop, Harry is virtually on his own in the Auror Department, and leans on Ginny more than ever. For more about Harry and his history with Ginny, see my application or, you know, I think somebody wrote some books about him.
