Rolf took a deep breath, fussing absently with his dark wash jeans, bright blue button up, and yellow tie as he paced his cramped apartment. He counted his footsteps as he walked, eyes trained towards the ground and brows furrowed in anxiousness. It was an unusual feeling for the young man. He was nervous, truly nervous. It was completely honest for Rolf to say that he could not remember the last time that he had felt this sort of nervousness—the butterflies in his stomach, his clammy hands, his restlessness. It was wholly unfamiliar, making it a particularly alarming ordeal. Come one, Rolf…. Now is not the time to start worrying about everything. It’s not like Luna doesn’t like you. You’re friends, you grew up together. His this self-encouraging thoughts continued on like this for a good ten minutes while his feet seemed to be acting of their own accord. He thought of Luna—oh her silky blond hair and her far-away smile. He thought of her passion and her kindness and her thoughtfulness. A small smile crept to his lips and he felt a bit of relief flood through him. Of course everything would be all right; it was Luna. His Luna. Looking up, Rolf realized that his twin, sitting on the couch eating leftovers, had been talking to him for a good five minutes. Rolf shook his head and ran a hand over his face, trying to pull himself out of his thoughts and into his life. ”Oh, sorry Roland. I got distracted.” He looked down at his watch and blinked, ”Can we talk later? I have to get going…” Barely listening to his brother’s response, Rolf was out the door within moments. It only took him a second to apparate into a narrow alley near the muggle restaurant that he had told Luna to meet him at. Walking towards Cozy Noodle ‘N Rice, Rolf couldn’t hold back the large grin that graced his face every time he visited this place. The walls were painted in a bright happy yellow, and though that was barely noticeable because of the toys that lined the walls. Wooden shelves were nailed in thin rows over every inch of the walls, and these shelves were crammed with toys. Wind up toys, plush toys, push toys—anything small and bright, in every variety you could imagine. The top shelf held a long line of bright red vintage robot toys that smiled down upon the customers. The restaurant was chaotic and exciting and childish. An enthusiastic Asian girl immediately approached him, asking if he had a reservation. Normally Rolf didn’t need to make one because it wasn’t a particularly fancy place, but on a Saturday evening tables could fill fast, so he had played it safe. Giving his name, the waitress brought him over to a table; he absentmindedly told her he would wait until his date arrived to order anything—his mind was already distracted by the many thoughts that tended to overtake him. Sitting back, Rolf waited patiently for his childhood friend to arrive. word count:: 513 tags:: Luna Lovegood muse:: good. It was early in the evening, and Luna Lovegood was quietly shuffling through her room looking for a misplaced shoe, something not unusual for the nineteen year old. For the fourth time she checked the clock, knowing that she was due to an early dinner with her childhood friend Rolf Scamander in about half an hour. Not surprisingly, the optimistic witch was not fazed by the lack of time, and continued to take her time looking for the missing ballet flat. “Darn shoe. Where could it have gotten to?” On her hands and knees, the fragile looking blonde peeped her head beneath her bed, whipping out her wand to light the way. “Oh!” She exclaimed as she found the lost object, slipping carefully out from beneath the oversized piece of furniture. She slipped the shoe on and looked at herself in the mirror with a passing glance. Her old butterbeer cap necklace, slightly mussed blonde hair, and a black knee length dress with a blue rope belt. Satisfied, Luna paced out of her room, apparating carelessly to an alley close by the little restaurant. Soon, Luna was walking calmly down the crowded London road to the little eatery Rolf had suggested they meet at. It wasn’t that apparating directly there wouldn’t have been easier, in reality it could’ve saved a lot of time! However, Luna was one for walking, for seeing the sights of the world, and for dreaming. Walking gave her just what she desired, as she took in the unfamiliar visages around her. New faces, new places, new discoveries. It was always refreshing to the absent minded young girl. She hardly noticed the sad looks on some faces, or the looks of distaste from others as she skipped freely along the sidewalk, loving the feel of the chilled London breeze on her face, and the faintest scent of the morning’s rain showers tickling her nose. As her hair whipped her face and the city sounds made music for her ears, Luna couldn’t help but giggle. She loved the muggle world. The rush of the vehicles and the common place of technology that had been deemed useless in the Wizarding World was fascinating. When the blonde finally reached her destination, she was nearly overjoyed by her surroundings. Little muggle toys and bright yellow walls, the place had a warm and friendly vibe that welcomed her in as if with open arms. Luna was looking around with wide eyes and a distracted grin when a friendly looking waitress bounced forward with a bright smile on her face, Luna couldn’t help but let her mouth stretch into a wider beam of pearly white teeth. When the woman asked if she had a reservation, Luna had to think for a moment, “Oh yes! It should be under Scamander, I believe!” she chirped, as the girl checked her book and waved a hand in a gesture for her to follow. As Luna walked towards her table, she couldn’t help but stand up on her tip toes, peering around for Rolf’s familiar face. She’d always loved being around him, he didn’t think she was completely bonkers. At least, if he did, she was sure he knew he was too… I suppose everyone is mad in their own sense, Luna thought to herself, as she bit on her chapped lower lip. Finally she saw her friendly’s face, nearly rushing past the hostess to see him. ”Rolf!" She exclaimed, grinning ear to ear. It had been far too long since she’d seen him, and happy little Luna was overjoyed as she opened her arms for a long awaited-- and very much overdue,-- hug. word count:: 610 tags:: Rolf Scamander muse:: Pretty darn good. notes:: I’ve never heard of Cozy Noodle ‘N Rice , but it does sound adorable. Was she lost? Had she forgotten the time? Had she changed her mind? Merciful Merlin, Rolf, it’s only been five minutes. It’s Luna—she’s probably just running a few minutes late. Calm yourself. Rolf sighed, a long finger running over the spiral designs ingrained into the table. Yes, she’ll be here any moment, he assured himself. Every time the bell by the door tinkled, he glanced up, heart jumping into his throat in anticipation. It felt like forever, but within ten minutes, the door opening was finally Luna. Luna, with a bright smile on her face, and a carefree look in her eyes. What had he been so worried about? Of course everything was fine. Rolf immediately stood up, nearly tripping over his own feet in an attempt to step away from the table and hug the blond approaching him. Grinning widely, he pulled the smaller girl close, hugging her tightly. She smelled wonderful—like summer sun and grass and dew. It was how she always smelled to him, seeing as they had spend mostly summers together growing up. Letting her step away, Rolf dropped his arms to his side and sat back down. He couldn’t stop smiling; the excitement was overwhelming. ”Luna… how have you been? I’m sorry it’s been so long. Things have been so hectic” This seemed like an understatement to Rolf. Things had been crazy. He and his brother had just moved out of their childhood home, a big step to be sure. Packing up their things had been a bit of a challenge for Rolf, who had never been a particularly organized individual. On top of that, his father had him working horrendously long hours, holed up in the library doing mind-numbing research. He knew that it was just to get him more comfortable with the profession, but it was irritating nonetheless. Rolf had never been the type to enjoy staying indoors all the time. Sure, once he got caught up and interested in the subject, he could enjoy the readings, but the young man would much rather be in on the action than simply reading about it. It tolled on his patience day after day—even if he was one of the most patient people around. None of that mattered much though; those were just those little life things that got in the way of more important aspects; falling in love, being around people, having fun. Rolf wasn’t one to talk life very seriously, and that wasn’t likely to change any time soon. Quickly, their waitress returned, asking if they wanted drinks. ”Have you had Thai food before, Luna? I know it’s unusually in the wizarding world.” Wanting something sweet and cold, Rolf ordered a Thai iced tea with a smile and a polite ‘please’ to the waitress. He continued, ”If you haven’t , I can help you through the menu. I’ve eaten here a lot, I think you’ll really enjoy it.”Blue eyes scanning the menu carefully, Rolf tried to think of foods that would be good for someone trying out the genre for the tirst time. He didn’t want to freak her out. He wondered what the other blond was thinking… Was she excited? Nervous? Annoyed? All three? He knew she would speak up soon but was felling impatient enough to badger her. They hadn’t seen each other in months, after all. He couldn’t just pretend that he didn’t miss her or didn’t want to know everything about her life. word count:: 577 tags:: Luna Lovegood muse:: good… but so. Exhausted. -.- notes:: sorry this took forever, m’dear.
