KATHRYN OCTAVIA BORGIN
NAME ;; Kathryn Octavia Borgin
"Ugh. It's an awful name if you ask me. But you must make due with what you've got, eh? I was named Kathryn Octavia after some distant and deceased ancestor who must have done something horribly important, otherwise why would she be worth remembering or naming your only child after? Now, I've asked around to all of my relatives including my grandparents, who truly do know everything, and every time I've asked, I've received a different, equally unbelievable story. Perhaps that was why she was great; she was an excellent story-teller."
NICKNAMES ;; Kate.
"I am to be called Kate. Don't even attempt to call me anything else, unless you want to meet a horrible and very, very painful fate."
AGE ;; seventeen
"I may be seventeen in years but I feel like I'm fully matured and completely free of adolescence. I feel like I'm adult enough to make my own decisions and adult enough to know what's right for me the first time. If there's one thing that can be said about me, it is that I've matured far beyond my years."

KATE is ;;
--- SELF-CENTERED, NARCISSISTIC, VAIN ;;
"People have been telling me I'm vain for years. Even the sorting hat almost put me in Slytherin because of it; I can't see why though. I don't see what's wrong with being confident"
Truth be told, Kate loves herself. She thinks she's the most amazing thing that's ever happened to the school, and that she is capable of truly anything that she sets her mind to. This can be both a shortcoming and a strength, but she is probably the most confident, sure of herself young woman you could possibly meet.
--- PLAYFUL, MISCHIEVOUS, SLY ;;
"Though I would really never admit it to my peers, at least half of what I do is meant to poke fun at their intelligence."
Kate has her own means of playing with people's heads. She is stimulated by games where the other person is put down, and she has the ability to prove that someone is weaker or less intelligent then she is. She loves to twist people's beliefs around to benefit her goals, and often uses this to make her dreams reality. Kate is an incredibly manipulative girl and actually thinks it's quite funny when people are frustrated with her actions.
--- INTELLIGENT, QUICK-WITTED, KNOWLEDGEABLE;;
"I've always been good at school. I never really had to work at it. It just came naturally to me."
Well, she couldn't be a Ravenclaw if she wasn't at least moderately intelligent, could she? Kate has always found coursework easy, often spending a few simple moments on her work and maintaining excellent grades. She understands the importance of school, but she only truly needs to study on occasion, hardly picking up a book throughout the years. Kate is one of those people who often learns by doing things, and doesn't really need that much practice because she is quick to understand, as long as things are explained to her.
--- JUDGMENTAL, CALLOUS, ABRASIVE;;
"I'm not abrasive; I just don't like stupidity."
Kate thinks if she's met you, she knows every thought in your head and every word that comes out of your mouth. Not only that, but she thinks that every thought in your head and every word in your mouth is stupid and dramatic. Kate can make a joke about you being upset over the death of your grandmother or make you second guess that seemingly perfect relationship you've got. And to make it worse, she loves any reaction, including a negative one and she thinks it's funny when people try to act like they don't care about her cruelty.

Kathryn Octavia Borgin was born on a stormy new year's eve in a small town in Wales. Her parents had just received a hundred-thousand galleon grant to further their ten-year experiment, which involved living completely absorbed in the habitat of a group of Common Welsh Green Dragons. It was not exactly the normal environment for an infant, but the Borgins saw no alternative. After the first year of her life (which her parents spent organizing a team and several essentials), Kathryn, along with a group of fourteen specialists, began living in a tent, tracking the habits of the dragons. Kathryn did not just have two parents during this time; it seemed like the eleven men and women who had accompanied her parents on their escapade all did their part in her upbringing. Kathryn hardly went through a day without a playmate or someone to read to her, and she loved having the complete attention of each and every member of the team. After her fifth birthday, her mother began homeschooling the girl. The family's business flourished after the completion of the experiment and it led to her father being offered a teaching job for young dragon trainers in Romania. As soon as they arrived, it seemed, Kathryn got herself into trouble. An adolescent and rather temperamental Hungarian Horntail attacked the girl without a second thought, causing several third degree burns that left scars across her stomach and ribs. Being thoroughly shocked by this event her parents sent her to live with her jolly, albeit eccentric grandfather,a Mr. Ophiophagus Borgin and further her growth living in the suburbs of London.
Instead of spending her days watching dragons, she now spent her days sitting in the dark and quite overcrowded family shop, Borgin and Burkes' doing mundane chores and learning tiny bits of dark magic from the customers that had no idea that they were being watched by a young girl. Because of her new home, she was no longer to be accepted into any Romanian academy for magic, but was now to attend Hogwarts. She was sorted into Ravenclaw after many moments under the sorting hat, and flourished in her new house.
The years passed and Kathryn grew into a mature young woman, spending most of her time reading up on magical theory and ideas, developed by the wizarding philosophers of their time, coming to a greater understanding of the world around her. She grew very self aware and realized that she stood singularly against the grain, as blood purity meant nothing to her, despite the family she was born in and despite the group of people who entered and exited her family's shop every day. She had a distinct interest in the dark arts, never practicing them herself, but it was a subject of tabboo and being a young and curious girl she couldn't help but find herself interested, though she went against the stereotype of caring so distinctly for blood purity; after all, though her family was full of purebloods, she and her mother were both half blooded, and therefore she felt no reason to be prejudice against muggleborns as she was taught to be by her wary grandfather who always seemed to believe that the dark lord would rise again, and that they must remain pure as not to be considered traitors.
In her fifth year at Hogwarts her grandfather's fears were very much realized. However, it was against Kate's beliefs to hide who she was, and she became very vocal about her newly found hatred for all purebloods. She was a strong girl, though foolish because she was unwilling to hide who she was even through such dangerous times and her grandfather's relentless pleading.
In her seventh year at Hogwarts, things went from bad to worse. She had convinced her grandfather that playing it safe was not courageous enough for him to be proud of, though he insisted he only did so for her safety, and he stopped playing his role as a death eater supporter. This eventually lead to Kate's imprisonment in Azkaban, in order to further control Mr. Borgin. She spent months in Azkaban, guarded by dementors and nearly lost all hope when she was released at the end of the war. She still has many nightmares about this time but during the daytime she simply pretends it didn't happen.The subway always smelled like urine. Julianne supposed it was probably because several homeless people lived there and it was often used as their bathroom. Apparently, it wasn't bad enough that she had to worry about being stabbed, shot, or maimed, falling onto the tracks and being flattened by an unyielding car, or that there was an entire city bustling over her head that could at any moment collapse right on top of her, but she also had to worry about stepping in a stinking yellow puddle of secretion; she couldn't decide which of the scenarios was worse as she sat on the grimy, gratified seat, twisting a hay-colored braid around her pointer finger. Her bones jingled like the tiny plastic skeleton key chain on her backpack from the eerie movement and the broken light over her head as she thought of the trying week she had endured. The week of exams had proved a trying one, not only for her (she had received nothing higher than a low B on any exam) but all the bullies she had become the target of. She should have expected them to talk their frustrations out on her. Tuesday her library books had been flung out into the snow, Thursday had brought the taunts of two more angry kids as well as a brand new purple bruise. And, the cherry on top of the cake, just that morning she found that her favorite star-covered, black backpack had been stolen with all of her notebooks with her deepest secrets inside, her laptop she had only just received for her birthday, less than a year ago, and the journalism papers she had researched so tirelessly tucked inside. She found it later in a garbage can near the cafeteria, covered in spoiled milk. She had washed it three times, and could still smell the sour stench on it.
When the tracks came to a quick and lurching halt at her final destination, Juli was the first one to get off, nearly tripping over a small redheaded child that was entering the train with his parents. After shrugging off the mother's glare, Julianne walked down the hall and took the steps leading to the world above two at a time, hoping to rid herself of this god awful rat-ridden tunnel and forget the awful week that had just passed; she was thankful for the break, and that she had an older sister who lived just one subway ride away. And she knew she would never be a bother. In fact, she never even thought that Liliane would mind her presence in the apartment at all. After all, she wasn't loud, she was old enough not to need constant supervision, and if anyone would be cooking, it would be Juli. Silently, she reassured herself that she would not be a burden and that, in fact, Lili wouldn't be burdened with her at all.
As her mind drifted back into reality, she found herself unlocking the front door of the apartment, having gone through the all-too-familiar motions of finding her way to the building and letting herself in, only stopping to present a casual nod of greeting to the door man, and elderly fellow named Frank who must have been in his very late eighties. The door flew open, as if it were afraid of any muggers that might manhandle it upon not getting their way, and Juli stepped inside, gingerly setting her bag on the floor next to the door, listening to the distinct silence that only came with living on your own.
With a rush of emotion she realized exactly how glad she was to be out of school, and home, at least for the weekend. Her eyes welled up with a slight teariness that had become common since her days in middle school at the feeling of failure that came with being bullied. She thought of the apartment as a refuge, at least for now and was glad to find her sister at home waiting for her.
"Hi Lili." She said, a little surprised at the sadness that had crept it's way into her voice. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you I was coming earlier, I just...I had a really bad week."
