--- QUIRKY ;; Rolf doesn’t mind being different. He’s not the type to keep from doing things just because it’s unusual. If he feels like dancing instead of walking, then he will. If he feels like singing in the hallway, then sing he will. Oftentimes Rolf can be seen sitting outside for hours, with no company, just watching nature and lost in thought. He’s quiet and contemplative in large groups, often speaking on a subject long past when he finally does reenter the conversation. Rolf is used to people balking at his behavior—it doesn’t faze him and he doesn’t get embarrassed easily.
--- IDEALISTIC ;; When it comes to people, and the future, Rolf tends to be highly optimistic. He always thinks the best of people—in fact, he tends to put people he really cares about on a pedestal. This often sets the young man up for a lot of pain, but he takes it all in stride. Rolf also has a tendency to expect the best of the what’s to come—he is excited about his future, not only occupationally but also (the romantic that he is) finding the love of his life. He wants to fall in love, settle down, have babies. In his eyes, it’s only a matter of time before everything falls into place.
--- CURIOUS ;; Insatiably curious in fact. Rolf is never done wondering about things, never satisfied with what the textbooks say. While he’s not more intelligent then the next bloke, his passion far makes up for it. It’s this interest in understanding the world that makes him good at his job—what he’s most curious about is magical creatures. They’ve fascinated him since he was a little boy, and the feeling hasn’t faded.

Rolf and Roland Scamander grew up in a home that was far from typical. Their father, Newt, was rather absent at times. For as long as Rolf could remember, he would go on long trips without his family, leaving for weeks (and occasionally months) at a time. This never seemed to concern their mother Rosa. In fact, Rolf can barely remember a time that he didn’t see a warm smile on his mother’s gentle face. She always stayed home with the boys, playing with them and teaching them until it came time for them to head off to Hogwarts. Her caring and sweet optimism is where much of Rolf's personality can be attributed.
As the boys aged, their father often took each of them out on their own, though the vast wildlife that surrounded their country home. He would spend hours outdoors with them individually, quiet as could be. Occasionally he would point out a particularly interesting plant or animal, but mostly he was silent. Rolf cherished these times—in fact, they became the most anticipated time of being home for the boy. When not spending time with their family, Rolf spent much of his time exploring on his own, or reading voraciously in the library. He knew before he stepped foot in Hogwarts that one day he would walk in his father’s footsteps as a Magizoologist.
When it came time to be sorted, being put into Hufflepuff did not disappoint Rolf—it fit his gentle, caring demeanor. Both of his parents had been Ravenclaws, but they had never instilled in Rolf a necessity to be similarly placed. He fit well in Hufflepuff, where his oddities were not judged quite as much as they might have been in other houses. While he wasn’t wildly popular by any means, he did make a few friends who he was loyal to though the years. In terms of grades, Rolf’s curiosity and work ethic worked in his favor where his natural intelligent didn’t. His grades were fair, nearing excellent. Professors didn’t mind him, though he wasn’t very memorable as a student.
Rolf’s family had never been involved in the war—they are too compassionate a group to have any interest in blood ties. This has given them the label “blood traitors,” of course they couldn’t care less. Rolf avoided the fighting in the last war, and couldn’t be happier that it’s all over. He has never pretended to be the type of man interested in war. If he had ever thought his family was in danger, then he would have been more proactive, but as it was things turned out pretty well for him. Now he’s working under his father, who is getting to be too old for his profession. When he decides to retire, Rolf intends to take over and continue Newt’s research.
